Found thrips on your plant?
You don’t want to see thrips in your grow room, let alone on your cannabis plants. But what can you do? What is the best way to fight these wolverines or better still, how can you prevent them? In this article you will read everything you need to know about the little critters. We will also give you some handy tips on how to combat and prevent thrips on weed.
The life cycle of thrips
Thrips are small insects that have as many as 6 life stages. As larvae, they are difficult to see with the naked eye. They are only 0.5 millimetres in size. This is followed by the pre-pupa and pupa stages, after which they grow into adults. This whole cycle takes 11 to 20 days at a low humidity and a temperature of 20-30 degrees.
Recognising thrips on the cannabis plant
You can recognise thrips mainly by the light spots on the top of the leaf. These spots can be yellow to silver in colour. The spots are caused by the holes that the thrips make in the young leaves. They bite their way through the leaf tissue to feed on the sap. You can also be dealing with thrips if you notice that the young leaves curl up.
